Lolek Neurologic Rehab is independently owned and operated by Johanna Bruggeman, PT, DPT. This provides a unique opportunity for you compared to most clinics in the area because your evaluating therapist will also be the clinician treating you throughout your plan of care which allows for the greatest amount of consistency and privacy. Personalized treatment plans focused on your specific functional goals are always the greatest priority.
LSVT BIG is a program that focuses on retraining the brain to use BIG movements which allows for improved efficiency and safety with daily functional activity while also providing the tools to slow the functional progression of Parkinson's disease. This research-backed protocol was initially designed for the treatment of Parkinson's-related symptoms but has also shown benefits in the treatment of symptoms related to strokes, balance trouble, and general aging.
Rock Steady Boxing is a high-energy program that uses modified boxing strategies which research has proven to improve strength, agility and overall function in those with Parkinson's disease in all points of their disease progression. This approach to movement can be used both for individualized therapy as well as in the group setting to keep you motivated with other like-minded individuals.
Rock Steady Boxing group classes are a great way to not only improve your cardiovascular health and strength but also target symptoms commonly associated with Parkinson's disease. Johanna Bruggeman, PT, DPT is the founder and physical therapist behind Lolek Neurologic Rehab. She is a Minster native and pursued her degree as a Doctor of Physical Therapy at the University of Findlay in 2018. As a student studying the profession, Johanna found a true love of all things neurologic which was expanded further through hands-on experience with a large population of people with Parkinson’s Disease. This love has only grown since being able to implement the practice of neurologic rehab techniques in the clinic with people experiencing a broad spectrum of neurologic disorders.
Over the past few years, Johanna has found an ever-growing love of Jesus and has made her Covenant of Love with Schoenstatt in 2021. You can find a home shrine devoted to our Mother Thrice Admirable (MTA) in the clinic which is used to pray for healing graces for all who bless the clinic with their presence. In 2023, Johanna felt the call from God to serve in a new way using the gifts and talents he has provided to her - this is where the origins of Lolek Neurologic Rehab come from!
Let’s tie it all together with a fun fact. Lolek Neurologic Rehab is named after St. John Paul II whose childhood nickname was Lolek. St. John Paul II is the patron saint of Parkinson’s disease. His feast day is October 22.
Johanna spends her time outside of work with her family; the high-energy bunch can often be found outside rollerblading and biking, playing board games, and enjoying the occasional evening watching the Amazing Race.
We cannot wait for you to join the Lolek family.
